A Glimpse into History

S. Eusebio Church dates back to the 7th-8th century. The complex comprises two distinct structures. The first is the tomb that Flavio Eusebio, the vice-governor of Campania, had built for himself and his family. The second is the church that houses frescoes from the late 11th to early 12th centuries such as the Last Supper and the Washing of the Feet.
S. Maria della Provvidenza Church underwent a Baroque-style restoration in 1742. The church owes its name after after the discovery of a fresco depicting the Virgin Mary during renovations. This fresco was considered miraculous and cherished by the locals.
Some other things to see are the Fortress and the Roman gate.
The Fortress was built to defend the entrance to the town’s center. Eminent figures, including Pope Sixtus IV and Pope Paul III, stayed here. However, in 1756, the fortress became property of Girolamo Marè, who left it in a state of neglect.
The Roman Gate was commissioned by Duke Odoardo Farnese and designed by Vignola in 1618. It currently divides the historic center of the town from the southern zone. During the years there has been some changes in the structure. For example, in the past there was a turret with a clock, turret that was later removed.
