Nowadays more and more people choose to spend their holidays outside their country or even in another continent. And Italy is one of the most popular places to go.
So, one of the first things you should worry about when planning a holiday is choosing a flight, and a hotel where you’ll be staying.
Even if both booking a flight and a hotel can be done online, without any human interaction, since you’re going in another country it can always be useful to know some basic sentences.
So, in this article you’re going to learn how to book a room in a hotel in Italy.
BOOKING THE HOTEL
The following Italian sentences will be useful if you call a hotel to book a room.
You call the hotel, the receptionist answers the phone and you’ll say:
Pronto, buongiorno, vorrei prenotare una camera dal 12 al 20 luglio. C’è disponibilità?
Hello, god morning, I’d like to make a reservation from 12th to 20th of July. Do you have any vacancies?
The receptionist can say yes or no.
Possible negative answers can be:
Mi dispiace ma l’hotel in quelle date è pieno
Mi dispiace ma non ho disponibilità per quel periodo
In case of a negative answer you can either change the date of your arrival or say goodbye and call another hotel. To ask if there are rooms available for another date you just say:
E dal 25 agosto al 2 di settembre?
And from the 25th of August to the 2nd of September?
If there are rooms available, the receptionist will ask you more details:
Per quante persone?
How many people is the reservation for?
And you’ll simply answer with a number, let’s say due.
The receptionist will go on asking you:
Camera doppia o camera singola?
Double room or single room?
In case you’ll answer camera doppia, the receptionist will ask you also:
Preferisce una stanza con letto matrimoniale o con letti singoli?
Would you like a room with a double bed or with twin beds?
And you can answer: con letto matrimoniale.
Another question the receptionist can ask you is:
Preferisce una camera vista mare?
Do you prefer a room with sea view?
Before answering you may like to know the price of the room, so you can ask:
Quanto costa una camera vista mare?
How much for a room with sea view?
If you’re ok with the price you can answer:
Sì, grazie. Vorrei una camera vista mare
Yes, thank you. I’d like a room with sea view
These are the very basic passages if you want to book a room in a hotel in Italy.
However, there may be other things you’d like to know before choosing to book a room.
